Spring has sprung and…..

WE ARE GETTING GOATS!!!!!

It was a sad sad winter here in Rhode Island. The least snow and the most warmth I have ever seen in my 44 years of life. I don’t know what that means I just hope it doesn’t become a trend as I thoroughly enjoy and need the hibernation time. We all do; some of us just know it and some of us just fight it! Either way spring is springing and I wont get mad at it. It’s a beautiful fuzzy and exciting feeling time. Full of possibilities.

My significant other half at times, ED has decided it’s time to get the goats he has always wanted.. He has always talked about them but I talked him into a sheep a decade ago instead! They are not as mischevious and escape like. Yes, I have one single sheep that lives with chickens and ducks. When she was young she would try to roost with them. She figured it out and now she is happy as herself, the painted desert sheep. Her name is June and we did get her a Johnny but he didn’t live past one. He came to us pretty ill and I just couldn’t nurse him to good health. After he sadly died we got her a roommate quickly and she turned out to be a little crazy; that poor Jade, so she went away. We then fostered a goat for awhile and she was ok at first and then she got too pushy with June so June said ‘get rid of her” and now she is a single woman again and happy to do so. I wonder how she will be with the goats. Maybe she will want to hang maybe not time will tell..

Back to the goats

Ed has spent the winter clearing about an acre of our back woods. He thinks the goats will keep it clear of brush, I have my thoughts on that and they don’t coincide with his. I doubt they will be settling for brush when they will be hand fed grain and hay on the daily and their home with be as cozy as ours.. I have already started plans of decorating. We are starting with 2 yearlings and 2 babies. The babies are twins LULU and LOLA. They are super cute but I know I will probably never be able to call them the right names and my tongue may actually get tied trying to do so.

Project goat shed started last week. So far so good. The shed will face the south because that is the advice I got from Grandma Gallagher. Ed worked hard at getting it level and all ready for the concrete boys to come. The slab is set and ready for Grampy to start building!! Those goats are going to see some beautiful sunsets and I will be right out there with them…
